You can do just that by showing up at the public forum Thursday night and voting for Charter Government in the straw vote scheduled.
The meeting will be held in the Elk Room of the new county administration building off Chesapeake Boulevard in Elkton. starting at 7:00 pm. You can see your new office building at the same time you help determine the future of your government.
The vote will not be binding on the County Commissioners, but you can bet it will influence their decisions. A group of folks are organizing to insure that they vote for Code Home Rule, a watered-down version of local authority that doesn't change the current system much, except to grant the local government the authority to raise more taxes. It does not solve most of the difficulties our Commissioners now face with the Maryland Legislature, as does the Charter form.
You can hear the details of each form and ask questions at the forum before the vote.
Please come and vote for an improved government under a Charter.
Thanks,
Committee for Charter Government
