Blogs In and Around Cecil County

Have you notice the number of blogs in and around Cecil County? Some people say that they are in competition with the printed media. I don't view them that way. I see them as a different viewpoint on the world around us. I read a lot of them, blogs from the Right, blogs from the Left and blogs in the middle. They are not going to replace my daily reading routine, The Cecil County Whig, The Sun, Fox News, The Drudge Report and CNN.

There are a lot of good blogs in our own area. Some resemble a newspaper such as Someone Noticed (Elkton), David Healey's Cecil Observer, a Harford County favorite - The Dagger, in Kent County - The Chestertown Spy. There is a photo gallery of Cecil County called the Bill Hughs Photo Gazette. The Canal Side in Chesepeake City covers the local happenings, politics and the arts. The Historical Society of Cecil County is a great informative blog.

Then we leap into the political blogs. On the Right we have O'malley Watch (one of my favorites), Delegate Smigiel's Blog, the Cecil County Young Republican Club and the Cecil County Conservative. On the Left, there the Censored Whig Letters by Stephen Crockett and Cecil Young Democrats. A recent newcomer is Smigiel2010, I do not know whether to classify this as Left or Right, he/she is difinitely a Smigiel hater. And of course, there is The Cecil County Blog. Recently there has been more postings leaning toward the Right, but the site is open to all sides.

I am sure that I have missed some other local blogs, I just listed those that I am aware of. Feel free to let me know about the ones that I missed. Which ones are your favorites or not? I think that blogs are a great tool to share your thoughts and ideas. They are also a great tool to open your mind up to other opinions.

Bloggers wanted – if you would like to be able to blog directly to the Cecil County Blog, please send an e-mail to Tim@timzane.com. This is open to Democrats, Republicans, Independents and all others. I created this blog as a avenue for all to voice their concerns about issues that impact on Cecil County. This invitation is open to all, even to those who have criticized me on my own blog. Take note that the name of this blog is the Cecil County Blog and not the Tim Zane Blog, so it is open to those who disagree with me. The only thing that I ask is that you do not make this a “hate” site. If you have an issue with someone or something, address it; just do not make it personal.

Recently, traffic has increased due to recent postings about the 2010 Budget and Harford County Superintendent Search (results will be announced this afternoon). This is what I envisioned when I started this blog. There are a lot of issues facing us in Cecil County, such as Artesian, Slots, BRAC, Land Preservation, 2010 Elections and many others. I would like to see folks take advantage of this blog to debate their side of the issues.

Vacation is over

I have been away on vacation camping in the Pocono Mountains. Great trip. I have been camping for over 17 years and this was the first time that we saw a bear in the campgrounds.

I have a stack of Cecil Whigs to read to see what has been happening. The blog has been quiet during my absence.

If any of the current candidates have any press releases or things to pass along to me to post on the blog site, please send them. So far, only Congressman Gilchrest and state Senator Harris has been sending press releases to me.

Cecil County Blog

This blog has been attracting more and more visitors. Yesterday (Saturday) there were 45 unique visitors (first time visitors) to the site with 70 page loads. So people are reading the blog. Almost 70% are from the local area. So that is the good news. The bad news is that we have a lot of readers but few contributors. I want this blog to be an open forum for the citizens of Cecil County so their thoughts and concerns can be heard. I am not looking to replace the Cecil Whig, they have been good to me in printing my letters to the editor but they have space limitations. The elected officials are aware of the blog so if you want to be heard, speak up. The "Truth"'s recent posting about the CCPS is a great example. If you would like to be a contributor author, just send me an e-mail and I will give you access. If you see that I am missing any links that should be here, let know. I can even add more categories if needed.
