Geocaching in Cecil County

One of our family’s favorite activities in Cecil County and beyond is geocaching. Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a GPS unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache. (click on the title for more?)

There are close to a hundred hidden caches right here in Cecil County. Some require a short hike to find, some are within feet of a parking spot. You may pass them everyday. There is one in the parking lot of the North East Walmart, Highs on Rt 272, Martins Food Market, Rising Sun Community Center and many more. If you like hiking, there are quite a few in Fair Hill, a couple on a trail behind Cecil College. There is a virtual cache at the lighthouse at Turkey Point.

Here are a couple of good web sites for more information:
