Half of the Story - Common Core and Campaign for Liberty

Recently I have been bombarded with e-mails from the Cecil County Campaign for Liberty about their efforts to have the Cecil County Board of Education "halt and defund the implementation of Common Core in CCPS." The Board of Education responded by saying that it was "not within our authority and not possible."

CCCL continues on in their e-mail with "Really? On 8/12/2013, Harford County B.O.E. Vice President Rick Grambo did what no one on the Cecil County B.O.E was willing to do . . . . . . he made a motion to withdraw from and defund Common Core in HCPS." They failed to mention in their e-mail that no one on the Harford County BOE would second the motion. And their biggest omission was that Rick Grambo is a member of the Harford County Campaign for Liberty.

CCCL then shares with us - "Even after reports of assessment scores dropping locally and around the state due to the implementation of Common Core", the BOE still wouldn't take action. Again they did not give the complete story. In the Whig just recently, there was a news story about the drop in scores. And the reason was that the State Assessment Tests have not been changed yet to match the new curriculum.

We are then informed that the members of the board are just using the BOE as a stepping stone to a bigger office. Don't they realize that most of the members of the BOE are doing this because they have children in Cecil County schools? They are volunteering countless hours of their time to help improve the education system to help their own children. Please CCCL, tell us which members are planning on running for higher office.

I think that it is important that we always hear opposing points of view. But it is important that if you are going to take a stand and try to sway public opinion, please tell the whole story and not just "half truths." As soon as you do that, you lose credibility with the public and soon no one will believe what you are saying.

And just as a side note, I really don't know much about Common Core. But from experience, if it is coming from the Federal Government, it can't be good.
